Description:

They’re baaaaack. Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann and Crescent City (New Orleans) funkster Papa Mali, along with Matt Hubbard (keyboards – Willie Nelson & Friends) and master bass player George Porter (the Meters) return to the Big Room once. Their music consists almost entirely of material that has been written by Robert Hunter (Grateful Dead lyricists) and Papa Mali. Expect a wonderful blend of Grateful Dead classics and New Orleans funk and soul. Bill Kreutzmann, best known as the steadfast heartbeat of the Grateful Dead from 1965 to 1995, has devoted his life to stretching and surpassing the percussive limits of music. Along with Garcia, Weir and Lesh, Bill is one of the four band members to play at every one of the Grateful Dead’s 3,500 shows. Malcolm Wellborn’s personification “PAPA MALI” is a salute to his home territory of north Louisiana. From an early age, Papa tuned into the music of the Wild Tchoupitoulas and the Meters thus cementing his attachment to Crescent City funk. “His music conjures up a potent gris-gris bag of tribal rhythms and true New Orleans-style funk, peppered with judicious touches of slide guitar and more than a bit of bayou joie de vivre. The vocals are delivered with a soulful swagger, almost as if Jimi Hendrix had been raised in the swamps on a steady diet of James Brown, the Meters and scratchy Delta blues.” New Orleans Gambit. “Laced with the kind of New Orleans groove that would make Dr. John proud." Jay Mazza, The Louisiana Weekly. Their appearance in early 2010 was one of the highlights of our musical year. The dance floor will be wide open so get your tickets early.
