Chico’s own Mother Hips return to the Big Room in May for two nights of rock ‘n’ roll. The band has largely flown under the radar for two decades, although recent critical praise frames them as the pioneers they truly are. Hailed by Pitchfork for a "rootsy mix of 70s rock and power pop" and by The New Yorker for an unflinching ability to "sing it sweet and play it dirty,” the Mother Hips' signature sound rings more genuine and relevant now than ever. The Hips—led by co-founders Tim Bluhm (vocals/guitar) and Greg Loiacono (guitar/vocals)—pack 20 years of musical adventure into their tracks: long days and nights on the road, gritty politics and smart, inward reflections. The well-traveled tales are all delivered with a crafty balance of Americana storytelling and California-burnished rock.
