Every so often I’ve been lucky enough to catch the rising star just before they hit national prominence. With a 300 seat venue, it’s either early or not at all. Names that come to mind are Nickel Creek, Tommy Emmanuel, Gillian Welch,The Avett Brothers, Trombone Shorty and many others. Well, here we go again. Sarah Jarosz. Sarah burst onto the scene last year as an 18-year-old acoustic wunderkind from just outside of Austin with her debut album "Song Up In Her Head". At the time of its release, Jarosz had just graduated from high school. Yet…..artists such as Chris Thile, Tim O’Brien, Darrell Scott, Jerry Douglas, Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, Shawn Colvin, Vince Gill, Dan Tyminski and others (I mean…really) thought enough of her skill set to appear in guest roles on the album. She plays mandolin, octave mandolin, Clawhammer banjo and guitar. She sings in supple tones that transcends the boundaries between folk and pop. Following the release of her first album she moved to Boston’s prestigious New England Conservatory, received a GRAMMY nomination, performed on Austin City Limits and A Prairie Home Companion as well as prestigious music festivals—Bonnaroo, Telluride and Newport to name a few. Joining her on stage will be Alex Hargreaves (Violin) and Nathaniel Smith (Cello), two prodigies and featured performers in their own right. I’m proud to be able to present Sarah Jarosz to you in the comfort of our own Big Room. And, the evening just keeps getting better. Opening the show will be two Chico favorites….Chris Webster (Mumbo Gumbo front woman) and the legend herself, master guitarist Nina Gerber. Chris and Nina are probably worth the price of admission alone. So, join us. Say you saw Sarah when… Get your tickets early.
