Mark Hummel’s Blues Harmonica Blowout 2013 – Jimmy Reed Tribute
This may be the greatest collection of blues stars ever presented on the Big Room stage. Since it’s a tribute to Jimmy Reed, harp players are paramount: Lazy Lester, the last of the Louisiana Swamp Blues masters; Kim Wilson, founder of the Fabulous Thunderbirds and considered to be among the greatest harmonica players (and singers) of his generation; Rick Estrin, co-founder of Little Charlie & the Nightcats, a perennial Big Room favorite; and Mark Hummel, a specialist in West Coast Blues. Hummel has released 18 albums and CDs. His energy and dedication to the instrument fuels these shows.
The collection of guitarists makes this Blues Blowout unique. Little Charlie Baty, the other co-founder of Little Charlie & the Nightcats, boasts years of experience backing harp players. Charlie will be joined by Big Room favorite Joe Louis Walker—the makings of a rare evening. And if that wasn’t enough, they’ll share the stage with guitar slinger Ron Thompson, the legendary Bay Area guitar master and founder of Ron Thompson & the Resisters.
Rounding out the musical cast will be bassist RW Grigsby and famed Texas drummer Wes Starr. This bottom-end duo has backed some of the greatest blues acts in the business. Join us for a very special tribute to Jimmy Reed. Have a blues lover in your family? Consider this show for an exciting holiday gift.
